Mrs. McCartney - our new 5th grade teacher

My name is Mrs. Mary McCartney and I am the new 5th grade ELA teacher here at Bloomfield Elementary. I am excited to now be a Cardinal and am having a blast being a part of this incredible staff.

My husband and I live on NSA Crane Naval Base. We have three children, Kaitlyn, Jerry and Madison and two “4-legged” companions, Maggie and Molly. Our children  have all “flown the nest”, with our youngest now running cross country at West Liberty University in West Virginia. Our middle child, Jerry, is living and working in South Bend, and our oldest, Kaitlyn, lives near my husbands home town in Ohio, where she is a dental hygienist and mother to our incredible grandson, Bob.

We are a Navy Family, and with that comes a lot of moves.  It was a big culture shock moving to Indiana but I can now say that I love the change of pace. I was born and raised just outside of Washington DC, in Northern VA., where my entire family still resides. I enjoy getting back to see them during summer breaks. Prior to moving to Indiana, we lived in Japan for 4 years. It was one of the best experiences I have ever had. The Navy then sent us to Indianapolis, where we spent 7 years residing in Carmel, Indiana. Just shy of a year ago, my husband was assigned to NSA Crane, where we now reside.

This is my 21st  year of teaching. I have my undergrad in Developmental Psychology and my Masters in Education, Preschool-8th grade. With all of our moves, I have been fortunate enough to take my career with me. I have had the opportunity to teach for Fairfax County Public Schools in Northern, VA. , for the Department of Defense Schools in Yokosuka, Japan, for Westfield Washington Schools in Westfield, Indiana, and now here, for BSD.

In my free time I enjoy being outdoors, rather it be running, biking, swimming or hiking. My husband and I enjoy beach time in the summer and skiing in the winter. When stuck inside, I enjoy reading, and sometimes, trying to be crafty.

I am excited for a wonderful school year and am happy to be part of such a nice community. I look forward to a great school year with our awesome 5th grade students and in getting to know the Bloomfield families better.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Mary C. McCartney
